About Simply Cherish

A nursery shaped by more than thirty years of childcare, on Alexandra Road South in Whalley Range.

Built from a lifetime in the room

My name is Margaret Ward and I’ve worked as a childcare professional for over 30 years. Simply Cherish Day Nursery represents my experience and my understanding of what the very best childcare should be about.

We have a dedicated team of professionals who know how to create a safe, secure and stimulating environment for your child. The nursery opened from a wish to do that work in a place of our own — you can read how Margaret, Michelle, Lyndsey and Emily came to the team on the team page.

The nursery is divided into four age groups

Children stay with others at a similar stage, so the day can match how they sleep, eat, talk and play. The move between rooms is planned with families, not sprung on them.

3 – 16 months

The baby room is unhurried. Practitioners follow each child’s own sleep and feeding rhythm, including formula milk up to one year. Days are built from holding, songs, floor play and time outside when the weather allows.

16 – 24 months

This is the age of first words, first climbs and a growing wish to do things alone. The room leaves space for that, with a familiar adult close by and plenty of chances to repeat a favourite game.

24 – 36 months

Two-year-olds learn in a crowd. Shared play, early mark-making, songs and the garden give them language and friendships before the pre-school room.

36 months and over

The oldest children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage towards school. Their interests still lead the planning, with more time for stories, numbers, outdoor risk and the independence they will need next.

Each family and child is given a key carer

Each family and child attending is given a key carer, to make sure they have the right individual care and attention.

That person is the one who knows how your child settles, what they are working on, and how the day went. Parents can talk with them about learning and development as part of the Early Years Foundation Stage journey. If your child needs extra support, Emily leads our SEND and EAL work alongside the key carer.

Opening times

The nursery is open Mondays to Fridays, offering full day places. We do require minimum attendance of two days a week.

Across the year we stay open for 51 weeks so working families have a steady pattern, closing for a week over Christmas. Monthly fees are averaged so that closed days do not change what you pay each month.

What we include in our fees

Our fees include the meals of the day, so you are not sending a packed lunch. The kitchen serves:

We also include

  • Formula milk for children up to 1 year old
  • Milk and water throughout the day
  • Nappies, wipes and Sudocrem

If you use government funding for the education hours only, meals and consumables are treated differently. The fees page sets out that £6 daily meal charge and what parents then provide.
